Gabicci celebrates vintage style with its new Gabicci Archive collection, featuring exclusive tops inspired by a unique discovery of vintage pieces in Paris.
Gabicci has unveiled its latest limited-edition collection, the Gabicci Archive, aiming to capture the essence of 1970s fashion through a selection of tops inspired by a unique discovery in Paris. This collection features five distinct pieces, each available in two original colorways, with only 100 units produced per color. The collection is drawing interest from retro-centric menswear retailers, including Tonics in Sidcup, Arcade in Eastbourne, and The 157 Store in Fareham, with upcoming stock deliveries expected at Stuarts London in Shepherd’s Bush.
The inspiration for this collection stems from a significant haul of vintage Gabicci items, uncovered after the passing of a store owner in Paris. Simon Parr, who oversees wholesale for Gabicci Vintage through his Heritage Brands company, explained, “We got to borrow the pieces from a collector called Chris Alexander, who in turn had bought them off a person who cleared the shop that had closed down in Paris following the owner’s death.” This treasure trove was said to include not only Gabicci tops but also pieces from prominent brands like Pierre Cardin and Yves Saint Laurent.
Gabicci has made a considerable effort to replicate the designs as closely as possible to the originals, with attention to detail including the neck label, the cloth ‘G’ on the chest pocket, and the swing ticket. Although the original garments were crafted from acetate—materials that can no longer be used due to legal restrictions—the brand has utilized a high-quality viscose and nylon blend for the new collection. Parr remarked that when Chris Alexander viewed the reproductions alongside the originals, “he could hardly tell the difference.” Demonstrating their commitment to authenticity, Gabicci invested in new machinery to recreate the distinctive larger collars typical of the era.
The collection was officially introduced to the fashion press and Gabicci enthusiasts on a notable occasion last Friday at Kafi, an independent coffee shop located in Fitzrovia, London. Among the attendees were personalities such as DJ Gary Crowley, TV and radio presenter Mark Webster, and filmmaker and writer Mark Baxter, who collectively host a podcast called ‘Clobbered,’ dedicated to exploring men’s fashion trends from previous decades. A special episode focusing on Gabicci is set to air in the coming weeks.
The retail price for each archive-inspired top is set at £85, and Gabicci has plans for an additional six styles to be released for the autumn/winter 2025 season.
