Goodwill Industries of Central Florida is hosting a Pop-Up Prom Showcase on March 29 and 30 to provide affordable formal wear options for teens in the area, encouraging community donations.
Goodwill Industries of Central Florida is set to host a Pop-Up Prom Showcase aimed at providing affordable options for local teens preparing for prom. Scheduled for March 29 and 30, the event will take place at two locations: the South Orange Blossom Trail store in Orlando and the Osceola Village store in Kissimmee, both open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
As prom season approaches in Orange and Osceola counties, which have scheduled celebrations in April and May, Goodwill is urging community members to contribute by donating formal attire. Marissa Coelho, Goodwill’s district manager, emphasized the organization’s need for donations, stating, “So we really want to get as many donors as possible to donate any prom gowns, bridesmaids’ gowns, wedding dresses for that matter as well, really anything that might be sitting in the back of the closet collecting dust maybe wore it one or two times.”
Community members can drop off their donations at the Orange Blossom Trail store or any of the other 28 Goodwill retail locations throughout Central Florida, including various donation express centers.
The Pop-Up Prom Showcase will feature a range of formal wear, including prom gowns, shoes, suits, and accessories, priced affordably to ensure that attendees can find outfits that fit their budgets. Coelho remarked on the pricing, saying, “Upwards of 25 to 35 dollars, that’s about the average, and some of them might be a little cheaper than that.” This initiative aims to help families secure elegant attire for their children without incurring significant expenses.
The event will not only make prom preparations easier for families but also promote the benefits of second-hand shopping, which is viewed favorably by local shoppers. Katie Ohern, a shopper, shared her support for the initiative, noting, “I think it’s a great idea. I think, I know prom can be expensive for everyone, and I think it’s a great idea to have more accessible options. I know that second-hand clothing is great for the environment.”
As Goodwill prepares for this showcase, it highlights the importance of community support to ensure its success in helping teens celebrate a milestone event affordably.
