The Yokohama Traditional style, or Hama-Tra, is seeing a resurgence with a modern twist, blending classic aesthetics with contemporary elements for women’s fashion.
The Yokohama Traditional style, commonly referred to as “Hama-Tra,” is experiencing a resurgence this season, echoing its popularity from the 1970s. This fashion trend, known for its neat and polished aesthetic, is particularly well-suited for women’s clothing. This modern iteration, inspired by the Reiwa era, incorporates the latest fashion elements while retaining the classic essence of Hama-Tra.
A key component of the contemporary Hama-Tra look is the checked skirt, which has roots in traditional campus attire. This signature garment serves as a springboard for various ensembles, particularly when paired with trendy tops. To achieve a stylish Reiwa update, a high-neck top and knit jacket can enhance the traditional mini-skirt look. The modernized innerwear features culottes, allowing for increased mobility while maintaining the overall elegance of the outfit. Accessories add flair, with a printed scarf serving as a sophisticated touch when placed in a handbag.
The new Hama-Tra fashion items include culottes priced at ¥31,900, a bag from Fukuzou Clothing Store at ¥35,000, and a scarf for ¥11,000. Additionally, a coordinating jacket is available for a set price of ¥25,300. Complementing the look are a cut and sew top from UNIQLO priced at ¥1,500, shoes from Diana at ¥38,500, earrings from Diana Ginza Main Store costing ¥8,480, and a ring from MICHIRU priced at ¥31,900.
This fashion revival is featured in the March 2025 issue of Bijin Hyakka, titled “Strolling Yokohama in ‘Reiwa Hama-Tra’.” The editorial team for the issue included photography by Yuma Kuramoto of Pygmy Company and styling by Miyu Irie, with hair and makeup by Harumi Kobe and model Akane Horita. The article was crafted by Sayaka Iseki and restructured by the Bijin Hyakka.com Editorial Department.
