The 415 ES Pure combines vintage aesthetics with modern engineering in a sophisticated new model from Hanhart.

Hanhart, a brand known for its heritage in timekeeping, has made a recent update to its collection with the launch of the 415 ES Pure, a refined version of a vintage chronograph originally introduced in the mid-1960s. The German company, which has roots in Switzerland, has a long history dating back to the early 1920s when it first began producing stopwatches. It later transitioned to manufacturing Flieger chronographs for pilots in the late 1930s. Today, Hanhart is recognized for its retro-inspired pilot watches that incorporate modern materials and technological advancements.

The 415 ES Pure debuted at the end of 2023, enhancing the previous model while embracing a more technical aesthetic. The original 415 ES was noteworthy for being Hanhart’s first chronograph equipped with a bidirectional rotating bezel featuring 60-minute graduations, as well as the introduction of the brand’s new wing logo aimed at modernizing its appearance. Despite the similarities in names, it is important to distinguish the 415 ES from the earlier 1954 ES 417 pilot’s chronograph, as both share the “ES” designation, which stands for “Edelstahl,” meaning steel in German.

This new chronograph features a 39mm stainless steel case with a thickness of 13.5mm and a lug-to-lug dimension of 46mm. Designed for functionality, it incorporates retro pump-style pushers, a generously sized knurled winding crown, and a sealed caseback that enables a water resistance of up to 100 meters. Central to its design is the fluted bidirectional bezel, now enhanced with a matte black ceramic insert including engraved 60-minute markings as well as an inverted triangle at the 12 o’clock position, though it notably lacks luminescence.

Significant changes are showcased on the dial of the 415 ES Pure, which opts for a minimalist approach by replacing the previous model’s bold yellow Arabic numerals and bronze-colored hands. The updated version features white numerals and hands set against a matte black backdrop, which improves legibility and results in a cleaner, sharper look. Additionally, the characteristically maintained white tachymeter scale and a red 100-unit scale continue to enhance its practicality. The luminescence on the hour and minute hands, as well as the hour markers, has transitioned to white that emits green light.

At the heart of the 415 ES Pure is the reliable Sellita SW510 manual-winding movement, a viable alternative to the Valjoux 7750, known for its extended power reserve of 58 hours. The watch is available with a choice of black, dark brown, or light brown calskin straps, coupled with a stainless steel pin buckle, and is priced at EUR 2,390, inclusive of taxes.
