London: The renowned fashion designer Huishan Zhang, first Chinese designer at London Fashion Week, expresses gratitude for the city’s support as he prepares for his latest collection at the Dorchester Hotel, highlighting his calm approach and intricate designs tailored for the modern woman.

Huishan Zhang, the prominent fashion designer, is preparing for his latest collection showcase at London Fashion Week, which is scheduled for next week. The designer was in a relaxed mood during a recent coffee meeting at his flagship store on Mount Street, a stark contrast to the bustling atmosphere typically surrounding such events in the industry. Having participated in London Fashion Week for over a decade, Zhang has honed his approach to the pre-show preparations.

The designer, who holds the distinction of being the first-ever Chinese designer to feature on the London Fashion Week calendar, expressed gratitude towards the city for its support. “London is a melting pot of cultures and has really opened up its doors to me, which is why I still call it home and feel it’s important to show here every season,” he said.

Zhang moved to London two decades ago to pursue his studies in fashion and pattern cutting at Central Saint Martins. His career was significantly boosted when Delphine Arnault, the chairperson and CEO of Christian Dior Couture, selected him to join the esteemed haute couture atelier shortly after his graduation. Reflecting on this pivotal moment, Zhang shared, “Years later I asked her why she chose me and she said, ‘You were the only one who dressed discreetly in a suit while everyone wanted to show off, so it made me remember you’.” This anecdote highlights Zhang’s preference for subtlety and professionalism in both personal style and design philosophy.

Zhang’s collections are characterised by intricately tailored dresses featuring detailed beading and flattering silhouettes, aimed at a sophisticated and discerning clientele. His designs are described as practical, a reflection of his understanding of the modern woman. For his upcoming show, scheduled to take place at the illustrious Dorchester Hotel, he has chosen a venue that resonates with the lifestyle of his target audience. “We’re showcasing at the Dorchester Hotel because it’s exactly where our woman would stay when she comes to London. It’s where she has her afternoon tea and goes on to all her events,” he noted.

As he gears up for the anticipated event, Zhang’s experience and calmness signal a strong sense of confidence in his designs and their appeal to fashion aficionados.
