Julia ‘Juju’ Ferentinos, founder of Juju Vera, merges vintage influences with contemporary style, drawing inspiration from fashion icons like Lee Radziwill.
Julia “Juju” Ferentinos, the vintage curator and founder of the jewelry brand Juju Vera, often contemplates what style icon Lee Radziwill would wear today. Her admiration for Radziwill and other notable figures such as Marella Agnelli, Jacqueline de Ribes, Peggy Guggenheim, and Frida Kahlo shapes her personal aesthetic, characterized by signature kaftans and distinctive tasseled earrings. In her view, these women exuded a “effortless confidence and elegance” that continues to inspire her fashion sense.
Juju recently launched her jewelry brand, Juju Vera, last summer. Prior to this venture, she amassed a wealth of knowledge by sourcing vintage pieces for films and publications, as well as for private clients on a global scale. Her thorough exploration of fashion markets led her to the Saint-Ouen flea market in Paris, the Lagunilla booths in Mexico City, and various small shops in Brera, Milan. “I was building a collection of timeless treasures that were always centered around proportion, mystery, and nostalgia,” Ferentinos reflected on the pieces she curated.
Her wardrobe reflects a love of discovery, with unique items that add layers of history and narrative to her style. Among her prized possessions are a golden egg-shaped clutch by Rafael Sanchez, a vintage tweed Chanel jacket found in Copenhagen, and a simple black cashmere turtleneck from J.Crew, which she uses as a base to showcase her jewelry designs.
Ferentinos adeptly melds vintage and modern fashion, navigating the challenges of combining the old with the new. She enhances her wardrobe with contemporary labels such as Leset and Éterne, alongside luxury brands like The Row and Khaite. This blend exemplifies her philosophy that women once embraced artistry in their adornment, suggesting that some “magic” has been lost over time. She aims to revive that subtle romance in contemporary fashion through her designs and style choices, inviting others to see the beauty in both vintage treasures and modern staples.
