Fashion enthusiasts in New York City are flocking to Celine’s SoHo store in search of the now-iconic $1,200 flared jeans that have gained immense popularity following a standout performance by rapper Kendrick Lamar at Super Bowl LIX. The event, held on Sunday, saw Lamar donning the flared denim, sparking a frenzy among fashion-forward individuals who now view the pants as a must-have item.

Sources close to Celine’s SoHo outlet have confirmed to the New York Post that the flared jeans are “completely sold out”, underscoring the impact of Lamar’s appearance, which reached an audience of over 133 million during the halftime show. Within just 48 hours of the Super Bowl, there was a remarkable 5,000% surge in Google searches for “flared jeans”, indicating a significant shift in consumer interest attributed to Lamar’s sartorial choice.

David Thielebeule, the men’s fashion director for Bloomingdale’s, commented on the trend to the New York Post, stating, “Y2K style is back. Kendrick’s flared denim and varsity jacket nailed the vibe.” He noted that these vintage-inspired styles are igniting nostalgia while bringing a modern twist to today’s fashion landscape. Thielebeule also highlighted the correlation between Lamar’s performance and the increase in consumer interest, saying, “We’ve seen a definite surge in interest since the halftime performance.”

The craze surrounding the Celine Marco flared jeans has extended beyond casual shoppers, with a slew of celebrities, including Meghan Markle, Bella Hadid, Sydney Sweeney, and Pharrell Williams, seen sporting similar styles. This resurgence follows a broader trend of flared jeans that initially gained traction in the 1960s and ’70s, later re-emerging during the early 2000s.

Fashion insiders from Celine’s SoHo boutique have expressed excitement over the influx of customers eager to try on the flares, with one insider stating how thrilling it has been to witness the sudden spike in foot traffic related to this trend.

Some consumers, like Summer Stewart, a fashion designer from Tribeca, are already ahead of the curve, having purchased their Celine jeans prior to Lamar’s performance. On the other hand, some consumers, like 25-year-old Rodrigo Calderón, a musical theatre actor based in Midtown, find the price point of designer gear unattainable. Calderón has instead opted for alternatives, acquiring various pairs of flared jeans under $100 from thrift stores, stating, “Flared jeans are a timeless and iconic choice… I’m glad Kendrick Lamar put them on the spot again.”
