The Kolkata Knight Riders celebrate their history with a new retro black and gold fan jersey, launched at the Knights Unplugged 2.0 event, although it won’t be worn during matches.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have made a significant announcement ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season by unveiling a retro fan jersey, inspired by the classic black and gold colors worn during their inaugural season in 2008. The new merchandise was introduced at a fan engagement event called Knights Unplugged 2.0.

The franchise clarified that while the retro black and gold fan jersey will not be worn by the team during matches, it will be available for retail purchase for fans who wish to celebrate KKR’s history. The team stated, “The retro black and gold fan jersey was the showstopper at the Knights Unplugged 2.0, amongst the other merchandise unveiled.”

KKR has partnered with SIX5SIX, one of India’s leading sportswear brands, to create exclusive apparel that reflects the franchise’s journey and values. The collaboration aims to evoke nostalgia among fans while providing them with stylish merchandise. The franchise noted, “This unique collaboration will invoke a sense of nostalgia for fans as it serves as a reminder of KKR’s 18-year journey, while also giving them a chic range of other merchandise to choose from.”

Binda Dey, CMO of Knight Riders Sports, remarked on the collaboration, stating, “We are thrilled to introduce this vintage collection of KKR merchandise, bringing a cherished part of our history back to life for our fans. While the team will continue to wear the iconic purple and gold jersey, this special edition fan jersey serves as both a nostalgic tribute and a limited-edition collector’s item.”

KKR will maintain their signature purple and gold jersey for match play, which features three championship stars symbolizing their title victories in 2012, 2014, and 2024. Additionally, KKR recently announced the launch of a groundbreaking new jersey created from biodegradable materials as part of their eco-friendly initiative, ‘Runs to Roots,’ highlighting their commitment to sustainability.

The defending champions will begin their title defense on March 22 against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
