London: Lady Gaga is making waves with her new single ‘Abracadabra’, thanks to the encouragement of her fiancé, Michael Polansky. The singer is embracing her flamboyant pop roots, with a striking new music video and a forthcoming album titled ‘Mayhem’ set for release in March 2024.

Lady Gaga is experiencing a resurgence in her music career, climbing the charts with her newly released single “Abracadabra”, thanks in part to encouragement from her fiancé, Michael Polansky. After a period of moderating her flamboyant public persona in favour of a more mainstream Hollywood image, Gaga is returning to her bold pop roots, which have defined much of her career.

The 38-year-old singer, who has adopted a striking visual style for her latest music video, has expressed her gratitude towards Polansky, 41, who has been instrumental in motivating her to create music that resonates with her authentic self. “Michael is the person who told me to make a new pop record,” Gaga stated in an interview, adding, “He was like, ‘Babe. I love you. You need to make pop music’.” Polansky’s support became particularly apparent during Gaga’s “Chromatica” tour, where he observed a renewed passion in her performances. He commented, “I wanted to help her keep that alive all the time and just start making music that made her happy.”

In just a few days since its release, “Abracadabra” has already soared to become Gaga’s 17th Top 10 single in the UK, with forecasts suggesting it could reach number one by the coming Friday. This would mark her first solo chart-topper since “Telephone” in 2009. Furthermore, the forthcoming album, titled “Mayhem”, is set to release on March 7, 2024, and has already produced three Top 10 hits, a feat not seen since her 2011 album “Born This Way”.

The music video for “Abracadabra” showcases Gaga in an avant-garde ensemble that includes a red latex cape fastened with nails, a spiked latex hat, and black fetish gloves, complemented by theatrical nails crafted by Balenciaga. Additionally, she channels Marie Antoinette in a dramatic lace cape constructed from an upcycled wedding dress. Unlike many of her contemporaries who lean towards conventional sex appeal, Gaga has chosen to favour a more artistic interpretation of allure.

Her recent performances highlight her distinctive style, marked by an eccentric Gothic appearance at the Grammys, where she won the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance award alongside Bruno Mars for their duet “Die With A Smile”. This revival of her past flamboyance comes 15 years after she turned heads with her famous meat dress at the 2010 MTV VMAs.

Since transitioning to a toned-down aesthetic following her 2016 album “Joanne”, Gaga’s fashion choices became increasingly subdued, particularly during her portrayal of the lead in the 2018 film “A Star Is Born”. This shift aimed to present her as a serious actress, adopting a more restrained style on the red carpet. However, as she returns to her roots, fans have expressed excitement over the comeback of her audacious and extravagant looks.

Choreographer Parris Goebel, who has been involved in Gaga’s new project, praised her dedication and transformation, stating, “She looks evolved. She got really fit for the video. She danced her ass off. She trained so hard.” Goebel added that this comeback is a significant moment for pop culture.

Gaga’s career has seen a remarkable blend of music and acting, recently earning accolades for her role in the film “House of Gucci” and winning the Best Original Song Oscar for “Shallow” from “A Star Is Born. Despite some criticism regarding earlier works, Gaga has previously defended her lifestyle changes, noting the benefits of a healthier approach to life.

As she navigates her return to a more flamboyant presence, Gaga appears poised to reignite her creative spark, echoing the iconic era of her earlier works while venturing forward into new musical territory.
