The new shopping destination in Taipei showcases popular brands like 9090, AAPE, BEAMS, and GAP, emphasizing the fusion of cultural influences in fashion.
LaLaport Nangang, the bustling shopping destination in Taipei, Taiwan, has officially opened its doors, featuring a range of highly anticipated Japanese brands that have generated significant buzz among fashion enthusiasts. The most notable newcomer is the trendy brand “9090,” which is under Yutori, recognized as the fastest clothing company to go public in Japanese history. Following a successful weekend pop-up store last summer in 2024 that served as a trial run, 9090 has now established its presence as the second overseas store globally, following its launch in Malaysia.
The design of the 9090 Taipei store draws inspiration from its flagship store in Tokyo, showcasing a “retro-futurism” aesthetic characterized by a striking metallic silver ambiance that sets the tone for a contemporary streetwear experience. The interior blends 90s retro elements, creating an atmosphere that transports customers into a fusion of nostalgic and science fiction themes. Merchandise available spans from popular classic collections to exclusive limited editions, including the sold-out 90 Logo series and the 9090 OG series, which has garnered a following among Japanese trendsetters. Additionally, the store features reintroduced wide jeans that previously sold out during pop-up sales and the “9090 girl” series, inspired by Shibuya fashion, highlighting the trends associated with “2000s Heisei-style hot girls.”
In addition to 9090, the LaLaport Nangang location also hosts other prominent Japanese streetwear brands such as AAPE. Affiliated with BAPE® (A BATHING APE®), AAPE emphasizes a younger, trendier style, focusing on versatile pieces that fit into a streetwear vibe infused with influences from hip-hop, university life, skateboarding, retro designs, and minimalism. The brand has made its mark with a distinctive mascot—a giant green “grass gorilla”—designed to appeal to younger consumers while fostering a vibrant store atmosphere enhanced by warm, natural wooden decor.
Moreover, the Japanese select shop BEAMS has opened its 10th store in Taiwan at LaLaport Nangang. Known for its emphasis on quality and design, BEAMS’ store interior reflects the influence of City Pop music, blending urban vibrancy with a vacation-like ambiance. The design elements feature white curvy walls and geometric tiled flooring, reminiscent of a poolside setting, creating an inviting shopping experience for visitors. BEAMS has a longstanding history in the Taiwanese market, further emphasizing its commitment to local consumers with this new specialty store.
Lastly, the American casual brand GAP has established a significant presence at LaLaport Nangang, offering nearly 100 pings of store space designed to cater to the shopping needs of families. The expansive layout features the latest “Feels Like Gap” Spring collection and a classic denim range, reflecting the brand’s commitment to American fashion aesthetics. Throughout the years, GAP has adapted its style, with its classic denim becoming increasingly diverse to meet consumer demands.
LaLaport Nangang’s opening not only highlights the expansion of popular fashion brands in Taiwan but also reinforces the growing trend of merging cultural influences in the global fashion industry.
