Langenhagen: A new initiative by Elisabeth Church offers an affordable solution for confirmation clothing through a flea market on March 1. Families can buy and sell gently used outfits, promoting sustainability while easing the financial burden of confirmation expenses.
In Langenhagen, a new initiative aims to provide an affordable option for confirmation attire, which can often be costly and quickly outgrown. The Elisabeth Church will host a flea market on Saturday, March 1, from 4 PM to 5 PM at the community centre, offering a platform for those involved in spring confirmations to acquire suitable outfits at a reduced price.
The idea for this flea market originated from Beate Granobs, a deaconess at the church, who reflected on her own experience with her son’s confirmation in 2023. She noted that despite the significant investment in his suit, it was only worn once and has since become too small for him. “The suit cost a lot, but was only worn once after the confirmation. And now it’s too small,” Granobs commented, highlighting the common challenge faced by many families during this significant occasion.
To facilitate participation, the flea market is designed for both buyers and sellers. Young people and families looking for affordable confirmation clothing will find fitting rooms set up at the venue, allowing them to try on outfits before making a purchase. Individuals interested in selling their confirmation attire must reach out to Granobs by February 26, either by phone at (0170) 2252827 or via email at beate.granobs@evlka.de. It is important to note that payments for sold items will be processed exclusively through PayPal, ensuring a secure transaction method directly to the sellers.
This event represents a thoughtful approach to sustainability in clothing, giving confirmation wear a second life while aiding families in their quest for affordable options.
