French designer Antoine Le Glaunec launches LGNC, aiming to empower women with a protective and stylish urban wardrobe while emphasizing eco-friendly practices.
The French fashion brand LGNC, founded in 2023 by designer Antoine Le Glaunec, has emerged with a mission to blend elegance and protection in women’s wardrobes tailored for the demands of urban life. The name LGNC, an abbreviation of Le Glaunec, was chosen to reflect both personal identity and the aspirations for the brand, characterized by its simple, memorable nature.
In a recent press release, Le Glaunec articulated the vision behind LGNC, stating the goal to “offer women a wardrobe that would allow them to put on a protective mask to confidently reveal the best version of themselves.” This vision extends beyond mere clothing choices; it seeks to address the broader experiences of women navigating an increasingly aggressive society. According to Le Glaunec, fashion can serve as a transformative vehicle, providing the protective elements needed for women to embrace their individuality and self-confidence amidst societal pressures.
Despite the emphasis on protection, concerns have been raised about the transparency of many of the garments. However, Le Glaunec argues that protection encompasses much more than physical coverage. He explains that the use of transparent fabrics allows for a nuanced expression of femininity and individuality. He noted, “The amount of fabric on the body is in no way an indicator of a person’s mindset.” Moreover, Le Glaunec highlighted the symbolism behind their use of materials, such as recycled animal leather, which speaks to a reconnection with wilderness and resilience.
Rivets are another defining element in LGNC’s designs, included not solely for visual appeal but to convey deeper meanings of repair and unity in garments. Le Glaunec elaborated, saying, “Each rivet serves to seal the different parts of the garment together, creating a unity, a structure, but also a metaphor for healing.” This integration of rivets reflects the brand’s philosophy of transforming flaws into strengths.
When discussing material choices, Le Glaunec emphasizes the use of environmentally friendly options, particularly recycled leather sourced from deadstock, which not only minimizes waste but embodies resilience through its design ethos. Additional materials include jersey and mesh, which contribute to the lightness and fluidity of the garments, providing comfort and freedom in movement.
The brand is committed to eco-friendly practices, with a strong focus on local production in Paris. By crafting garments in small batches, LGNC aims to minimize overproduction and excess inventory. For larger runs, the company collaborates with European workshops known for their ethical working conditions and respect for labor rights, ensuring that their production practices align with their environmental and social standards.
Interviews conducted by Anne Delalandre delve into the innovative ethos behind LGNC, which aims to fuse aesthetic appeal with meaningful protection and environmental consciousness in the fashion landscape.
