London: Lyle & Scott, the iconic golf brand, has unveiled a new golf collection aimed at merging style and performance. The brand has appointed rising star Brandon Robinson Thompson as its ambassador, who expresses excitement about the innovative apparel and the brand’s legacy in the golfing world.
Lyle & Scott, a brand with deep roots in the golfing world, has long been associated with both style and performance in golf wear. Originating during a period that saw significant growth for the sport in the 1960s, Lyle & Scott has often been referred to as the “original golf brand,” having introduced its iconic golden eagle logo during that era. The brand’s influence expanded as golf gained popularity, aided by the advent of colour television and the emergence of golf personalities like Arnold Palmer.
In recent news, Lyle & Scott has launched a new golf collection as part of a strategy to ‘disrupt and innovate’ the game, merging fashion with functionality. This bold step is underscored by the announcement of their new brand ambassador, Brandon Robinson Thompson, a golfer from the Isle of Man who has quickly made a name for himself in the golfing community.
Thompson, who secured his DP World Tour card in the previous year and has already shown a promising start to the 2025 season, first caught attention for his dynamic presence at the 2023 Open Championship held at Royal Liverpool. An inspired performance and unique style have made him a notable figure in modern golf. He is well-regarded not just for his game, but also for the energetic vibe he brings to tournaments, often supported by a dedicated entourage known as the “Sauce Army,” consisting of friends, family, and fellow athletes. Thompson humorously mentioned this group, commenting on an unusual rumour regarding one of his taller friends: “I think that’s my mate who is 6’6” with dreads. I can confirm he is not an NFL superstar although a lot of people think he might be!”
After an impressive round that included a 61 at the Bahrain Championship, Thompson expressed enthusiasm about partnering with Lyle & Scott. “I feel like the eagle rubbed off on me – I had two of them!” he stated. He revealed his excitement for the new collection, saying, “I like a bit of colour. I love the stuff.” Reflecting on the brand’s legacy, he added, “It’s a huge golf brand. They took a few years hiatus there in the golf industry, but now they’re coming back and back with a bang to be honest.”
Thompson praised specific features of the new apparel, such as non-slip trousers and shorts designed to keep shirts tucked in, stating, “It’s little things like that are overlooked for the most part. It’s just great quality. They’re invested and I feel like I’ve been brought in as part of the team. They’ve made me feel very welcome and I’ve loved it so far.” This sentiment underscores Lyle & Scott’s commitment to modernising their product offerings while maintaining their classic roots in the game of golf.
