The annual Lynn Fashion Showcase at Lynn University successfully attracted over 500 attendees, offering valuable hands-on experiences for students and highlighting sustainable fashion.
The Lynn Fashion Showcase this year has been hailed as a resounding success, attracting over 500 attendees and setting a new standard for the annual event. The showcase, which took place at Lynn University in Boca Raton, provided hands-on experience for 300 students from various disciplines, including fashion, hospitality, photography, multimedia journalism, and film production.
RT Good, Dean of the College of Business and Management, highlighted the importance of experiential learning at Lynn University, stating, “Experiential learning is at the heart of Lynn University, and this event brings that to life by giving students full ownership of a large-scale production.” This sentiment underscores the event’s educational significance as students collaborated extensively to create a professionally executed experience.
Months of planning culminated in a beautifully staged event where no detail was overlooked. A striking custom runway featured graffiti-style painted strokes that made a bold visual statement. Cesar Santalo, Dean of the College of Communication and Design, shared that the setup was a “testament to the power of collaboration, creativity, and storytelling through design,” emphasizing that the custom runway and pillars were hand-illustrated by faculty and students to honor Boca Raton’s Centennial while integrating artistic expression.
Dr. Katrina Carter-Tellison, Vice President for Academic Affairs, spoke on the event’s theme of sustainability. In her remarks, she discussed how the showcase “honors our city’s rich history while looking forward to the future through sustainable fashion,” reinforcing the commitment of the university to a sustainable approach in the fashion industry.
The showcase featured five prominent fashion designers, including the curated designer Michelle Farmer, known for her sophisticated and high-quality designs made from sustainable fabrics. Returning to the runway was Amanda Perna, last year’s curated designer, who has built a reputation for her vibrant, bold collections that focus on minimizing waste. Cuban-born designer Alejandro Barzaga presented a collection that highlighted craftsmanship and structure, while Mexican designer Paulina Luna presented garments that challenged traditional notions of femininity. Terry Singh, based in New York City, showcased a menswear line that embraced ideals of freedom, fluidity, and personal expression.
As this year’s showcase comes to a close, the faculty and students at Lynn University are already turning their attention to next year’s event. Given the enthusiasm and creativity displayed this year, anticipation is high for what is to come in the future.
