Finnish lifestyle brand Marimekko announces an exciting collaboration with Swedish artist Petra Börner, featuring bold prints and sustainable materials in their latest collection set to launch this March.

Marimekko, the renowned Finnish lifestyle brand, is set to unveil a vibrant new collection in March, featuring a collaboration with London-based Swedish artist Petra Börner. This latest edition of the Marimekko Artist Series promises to deliver bold prints and joyful colors that aim to enhance everyday life with a more artful touch.

Petra Börner, celebrated for her dynamic, nature-inspired artwork, has cultivated an artistic universe characterized by expressive lines and playful movements over the past two decades. Her style, reflecting her Swedish heritage and often emphasizing nature’s rhythms, resonates strongly with Marimekko’s intrinsic values of organic forms and nonconventional beauty. “Collaborating with Petra Börner feels natural,” stated Marimekko’s Creative Director, Rebekka Bay. “Her abstract florals perfectly align with our joyful, optimistic philosophy.”

The collaboration translates eight original artworks from Börner into a collection encompassing ready-to-wear fashion, accessories, and home décor. The designs feature a lively color palette that includes shades of Tigerlily orange, spearmint green, and soft blues. These elements adorn beautifully crafted silhouettes and timeless home essentials, showcasing Marimekko’s textile printing proficiency through the use of halftone techniques and layered screens. Moreover, Petra’s artistic touch extends to the details; she personally carved the pattern for the Oiva Vildmo serving platter, exemplifying the hands-on approach to her creations.

In line with Marimekko’s commitment to sustainability, the collection emphasizes responsible material choices. The apparel is made from organic cotton and European flax linen, such as the striking Anemonet and Antra dresses, which are crafted with 65% organic cotton and 35% European flax linen. Additionally, the brand employs techniques aimed at minimizing fabric waste, creating zero-waste designs, a method also utilized in other Marimekko Marimini dresses. The home textile offerings prominently feature organic and recycled cotton, with fabric printed at Marimekko’s Helsinki factory and items like the Pistilla-patterned cushion cover and the Vildstjälk-patterned throw being made from 100% organic cotton.

This new collaboration is part of Marimekko’s broader commitment to sustainability, as the brand continues to evolve its production processes, ensuring ethical supply chains and the responsible sourcing of materials. The aim is to produce high-quality, enduring designs that adhere to the principles of a circular economy.

The Petra Börner x Marimekko collection will launch globally this March, inviting enthusiasts of both Swedish artistry and Finnish design to incorporate these vibrant creations into their wardrobes and homes. This collection adds Petra Börner to the list of distinguished artists who have previously collaborated with Marimekko, including Virginie Hucher, Landon Metz, and Sabine Finkenauer.
