London: Renowned fashion designer Michael Kors discusses the significance of sustainability in fashion, advocating for high-quality, versatile pieces. He emphasises the importance of making mindful purchasing decisions and shares insights into his personal style and grooming routine, highlighting a shift towards environmentally conscious choices in the industry.

Michael Kors, the renowned fashion designer, has recently expressed his views on sustainable fashion and the importance of making mindful style choices. Speaking to The Sunday Times, Kors highlighted his disdain for “disposability” in the fashion industry, asserting that investing in high-quality, versatile pieces is both environmentally friendly and financially prudent. “I’ve always believed one of the greenest things you can do is buy something that you are going to wear for years to come,” he stated.

Kors elaborated on the benefits of purchasing items that can be styled in various ways across different seasons, indicating that such choices are not only wise investments but also contribute positively to the planet. “If you buy something that you can style one way in the winter and one in the summer, or that you can dress up or down, it’s not only a better investment, it’s better for the world too,” he emphasised.

In an interesting twist, Kors admitted to having a penchant for collecting sunglasses, specifically aviators, revealing that he owns over 100 pairs of the same style. He recounted how this fascination began in his youth, driven by images of iconic figures like Steve McQueen. “They add instant glamour and a little mystery to any look. They’re a sure-fire confidence builder,” he stated.

In addition to his views on fashion sustainability, Kors shared insights into his personal grooming regimen, mentioning that he sources his socks from well-regarded retailers Muji and Charvet. His skincare choices include popular products from Kiehl’s, Glossier, and La Mer, showcasing his affinity for maintaining a polished appearance. Despite his fashion expertise and personal style attention, Kors described his morning routine as fairly uncomplicated, stating that he can prepare himself to leave the house in under 45 minutes due to being “fairly low maintenance.”

Kors’ perspective on sustainable fashion reflects a growing trend among designers and consumers alike, with an increasing emphasis on slow fashion, upcycling, and the significant role second-hand clothing plays in reducing environmental impact.
