Modern Meadow and Bellroy team up to introduce a new line of accessories made from the innovative biomaterial INNOVERA™, pushing the boundaries of eco-conscious manufacturing.
Modern Meadow, a pioneer in the field of sustainable biomaterials, has announced a partnership with Australian carry brand Bellroy to create a new line of eco-conscious accessories. This collaboration will see Bellroy utilize Modern Meadow’s innovative material, INNOVERA™, in various carry products, marking a significant step towards environmentally friendly manufacturing.
INNOVERA™, formerly called BIO-VERA®, is a cutting-edge biomaterial designed to replicate the look and feel of traditional leather while promoting sustainability. The composition of INNOVERA™ includes plant-based proteins, biopolymers, and post-consumer waste, resulting in a material that boasts over 80% renewable carbon content. According to Modern Meadow, the material is lightweight, exhibits remarkable resilience, and is reported to be twice as strong as conventional leather. It is also versatile, available in a range of textures and finishes to accommodate diverse performance needs while adhering to sustainable practices.
David Williamson, PhD, CEO of Modern Meadow, emphasized the importance of this development in a statement, saying, “We’re enabling brands like Bellroy to introduce premium, sustainable products using cutting-edge biomaterials.” He noted that INNOVERA™ is particularly well-suited for products that require both durability and eco-friendliness.
Bellroy, recognized as a certified B Corporation, is committed to sustainability practices that incorporate materials derived from recycled plastics, industrial waste, and reclaimed fishing nets. The company has consistently prioritized environmental and social responsibility in its operations.
Andy Fallshaw, co-founder of Bellroy, articulated the company’s ethos by stating, “We aim to support solutions that address environmental issues without creating new ones.” He highlighted the benefits of INNOVERA™, noting that it not only aids in waste reduction but also excels in critical performance metrics compared to leather, including durability and design flexibility. Fallshaw expressed enthusiasm about the forthcoming collaboration, indicating a strong anticipation for its introduction to consumers.
The initial products made from INNOVERA™ are scheduled to launch in the second half of 2025, with consumers encouraged to register for updates through Bellroy’s official website, bellroy.com/innovera.
