Moscow’s light industry sector is witnessing significant growth in the production of sportswear, driven by emerging market demands and substantial support from city authorities. According to Anatoly Garbuzov, Minister of the Government of Moscow and Head of the Department of Investment and Industrial Policy, activewear production in the city saw an impressive increase of nearly one-third as of January 2025.

Garbuzov outlined that a total of 135 companies in Moscow are engaged in the manufacturing of various clothing types catering to men, women, and children. These firms offer a wide range of products, including jackets, trousers, shirts, outerwear, and numerous fitness apparel. Notably, in January 2025, they ramped up the production of sportswear—including skiing and swimwear—by 32.3 percent, resulting in over 77,300 quality items being produced.

One standout company, “Alyera,” specializes in high-tech sports clothing, overseeing the entire production process, from concept sketches and innovative knit fabric creation to final tailoring. The company offers a diverse selection that caters to gymnastics, swimming, dance, figure skating, and casual wear. In the previous year, Alyera’s production reached over 200,000 items and introduced 200 new products to its lineup. These garments have gained popularity among sports schools and dance clubs due to their emphasis on quality and performance.

Pavel Fokin, CEO of Alyera, noted, “The use of innovative materials attracts both professional athletes and amateurs seeking to improve their performance and comfort during training.” He further explained that the extensive range of sizes is tailored to accommodate the anthropometric characteristics of Russian consumers, thereby enhancing the accessibility and fit for individual athletes and larger teams across the country.

Another notable player in the Moscow sportswear landscape is the manufacturer Skin of Angel, which produces a variety of women’s athletic apparel including suits, overalls, leggings, and swimsuits. Utilizing unique designer patterns crafted from high-tech elastic materials, Skin of Angel ensures that its garments allow for unrestricted movement while maintaining their shape during rigorous activity. By the close of 2024, the brand achieved production of approximately 16,000 clothing units, marking a 35 percent increase over the previous year. Plans are in place to further boost production, aiming to reach around 20,000 items this year.

The current growth trajectory of Moscow’s light industry in sportswear reflects a dynamic response to both local and broader market demands, signaling ongoing investment and innovation in the sector.
