Texas startup MY Knitever, led by physicist Ying Yi, is transforming the fashion industry by offering custom-made dresses using innovative 3D knitting technology that emphasizes sustainability and self-expression.

MY Knitever, a Texas-based startup founded by physicist and model Ying Yi, is leading a revolution in the fashion industry with its innovative approach to sustainability and self-expression through WHOLEGARMENT technology. Established in 2022, the company specializes in custom-made dresses that are tailored to fit individual body shapes, leveraging the latest advancements in 3D knitting technology and smartphone body scanning.

The use of Shima Seiki’s WHOLEGARMENT 3D knitting machines allows the company to produce garments with minimal material waste. These machines are recognized for their efficiency in creating seamless knitwear, which aligns with Ms. Yi’s commitment to environmental sustainability within the fashion sector. “It minimises waste and reduces labour requirements, which is particularly beneficial for manufacturing in the U.S. It has proven to be an ideal choice for achieving my goals,” she stated.

The process begins with customers conducting a body scan on their smartphones, which generates data that aids in crafting a dress that fits perfectly. This technology not only addresses the common issue of ill-fitting standard-sized garments but also promotes body positivity. Ms. Yi emphasizes that MY Knitever is dedicated to empowering women to feel confident and beautiful, providing options that prioritize individuality without compromising on quality. She remarked, “MY Knitever embraces the body positivity movement by offering fashion that empowers women.”

The implementation of KnitPaint programming software further streamlines the creation of WHOLEGARMENT knitting data, enhancing the production process. Ms. Yi’s vision is driven by both her background in physics and her passion for fashion, allowing her to fuse creativity with technological advancements. She identifies WHOLEGARMENT as a way to meet the dual demands of personalized fashion and environmental responsibility.

Looking ahead, Ms. Yi expressed her aspirations for MY Knitever, revealing plans to expand the range of designs for WHOLEGARMENT knit dresses and acquire additional 3D knitting machines. Moreover, she is investigating ways to incorporate sustainability practices into her operations by reusing yarn unwound from WHOLEGARMENT products.

Through its unique model, MY Knitever is positioned to redefine the landscape of women’s fashion, emphasizing the importance of sustainability and individuality in garment creation.
