FREEE Recycle introduces the A?JA?LA? Tote and Laptop Bags, crafted from 80% recycled materials to tackle waste management in Nigeria.
FREEE Recycle, a Nigerian tyre recycling company, has recently introduced a new line of products designed to address both waste management and fashion needs—the A?JA?LA? Tote and Laptop Bags. These bags, created from 80% recycled materials, aim to transform waste into practical and stylish items. The term “A?JA?LA?” is derived from the Yoruba word for “traveller,” symbolizing the themes of sustainability, transformation, and movement.
The launch of the A?JA?LA? bags comes amid a significant waste tyre crisis in Nigeria, where the country generated approximately 113,000 tons of waste tyres in 2017. Despite this alarming figure, options for effective recycling have been relatively limited. FREEE Recycle positions itself as a pioneer in this domain, providing innovative solutions to alleviate the challenge of tyre waste.
Ifedolapo Runsewe, the Founder of FREEE Recycle, highlighted the company’s vision and commitment to sustainability during the product announcement. Speaking to Tyre and Rubber Recycling, Runsewe stated, “At FREEE Recycle, we believe waste does not have to be the end of the road; it can be the start of something new. The A?JA?LA? bags prove that recycling can be both practical and stylish. We are giving old tyres a second life, tackling Nigeria’s waste problem and supporting a cleaner planet.”
The initiative reflects a broader commitment by the company to enhance waste management practices in Nigeria. FREEE Recycle aims to recycle over 5 million tyres annually, which not only contributes to reducing pollution but also supports sustainable manufacturing processes across the continent. Beyond fashion items like bags, the recycling of tyres can yield a variety of products, including pyrolysis oil and rubber-modified asphalt, further contributing to both the economy and the environment.
Runsewe’s efforts have also been recognized, as she has been nominated for the prestigious Recircle Awards in the Women’s Award for the Tyre Recycling Sector category this year, underscoring the impact of her work in promoting sustainable practices in tyre recycling in Africa.
