A new chapter for Swedish denim brand Nudie Jeans is set to unfold in Manchester, as the company announces the opening of its first Repair Shop outside of London. Located in the Northern Quarter, the store will officially open its doors on April 24, 2024. This will mark Nudie Jeans’ first retail venture in the North of England and is part of the brand’s broader strategy to enhance its presence in one of the UK’s key markets.
The repair shop is designed not only as a commercial outlet for new denim but also as a community-focused space where sustainability and creativity can thrive. Alongside selling its primary products, Nudie Jeans will offer free lifetime repairs on all Nudie jeans, encouraging customers to return for service rather than replacement. Martin Gustavsson, Chief Commercial Officer of Nudie Jeans, emphasized the importance of in-person connections at their stores, noting, “It’s in our stores that we truly connect with our customers – in person and authentically. These personal interactions drive us forward, make us better, and help us build a community that cares.”
In addition to its repair service, the Northern Quarter location will host a variety of events aimed at engaging the local community. Planned activities include live music events, repair workshops, panel discussions, and initiatives aimed at promoting the reuse of denim. Nudie Jeans has also incorporated its ‘Re-Use’ program at this site, which allows customers to trade in their pre-loved jeans for a discount on new purchases.
This new outlet reflects Nudie Jeans’ commitment to sustainability, a core value since its establishment in Gothenburg in 2001. The brand has set ambitious climate goals while addressing challenges faced within the textile industry, such as the environmental impact of shipping. To mitigate this, Nudie Jeans will operate its stores as local distribution hubs to reduce reliance on air freight for online orders.
The Manchester store will be situated on Oldham Street, adjacent to the popular Night & Day Cafe. As Nudie Jeans continues to grow its online presence, the opening of this Repair Shop highlights their focus on creating sustainable practices while fostering a vibrant community.
