Casper: Plato’s Closet will open its new location on February 20, 2024, focusing on sustainable shopping for local youth. Operated by community residents, the store aims to provide affordable clothing options alongside promotional activities for the grand opening weekend.
Plato’s Closet, a well-known national retail resale outlet catering to teens and young adults, is set to open its latest location in Casper, Wyoming. This announcement has been made by Winmark Corporation, the parent company of Plato’s Closet, as well as several other brands like Once Upon a Child and Play It Again Sports.
The new store is scheduled to open on February 20, 2024, with a primary focus on providing a sustainable shopping option for local youth. According to the company’s release, Plato’s Closet aims to help young people “put cash back into their pockets,” while offering gently used, name-brand clothing and accessories at a lower cost.
The Casper store is operated by local residents Matt and Naomi Ruyter, a husband-and-wife team with children of their own. In their statement, the couple highlighted a personal connection to the brand, expressing that they have faced difficulties finding suitable clothing options for their pre-teen and teenage daughters in the area. By utilising their finance and retail experience, they have made the decision to launch Plato’s Closet in Casper, aiming to create an affordable shopping destination for young adults and teens in the community.
To celebrate the grand opening, the store will host special promotions and sales from its opening day, February 20, through February 23. These promotions include a complimentary tote bag for customers spending $75 or more, along with a $10 coupon for future purchases over $50. The first 25 customers on the opening day will receive a $20 gift card, and there will be other prize draws throughout the opening weekend, including $200 and $50 gift cards and a chance to win Beats Solo 4 Tru Wireless headphones.
The store also plans to reward shoppers by offering double Fivestar points on the final day of the promotion. The general public will have the opportunity to sell their gently used clothing and accessories without the need for an appointment, receiving cash on the spot for the items sold.
The Ruyters have expressed their enthusiasm for providing a much-needed service in Casper. “There are very few local clothing stores tailored for teens and young adults, which is a challenge we’ve faced firsthand as parents,” Naomi said, speaking to Oil City News. “We’re thrilled to bring Plato’s Closet to Casper, offering affordable and stylish options, while also creating a resource that supports sustainability and gives back to the community.”
With a commitment to sustainability, the release from Winmark Corporation reiterates the company’s dedication to reducing waste by enabling customers to share gently used clothing instead of allowing it to “be thrown into a landfill.”
