Puma is enhancing its Vision 2030 goals by expanding its Re:Fibre recycling program and partnering with Re&Up to integrate more recycled materials into its products.
Puma, the global sportswear giant, is making significant strides in sustainability as part of its Vision 2030 goals, particularly focusing on circularity within its product lines. The company has already expanded its Re:Fibre textile-to-textile recycling program, which has been instrumental in producing football jerseys made from an increasing percentage of recycled textiles.
A key partner in Puma’s endeavor is Re&Up, a company that plays a vital role in decreasing Puma’s reliance on bottle-recycled polyester. As part of this partnership, Puma is set to introduce Re:Fibre into the Americas, effectively integrating Re&Up’s recycled raw materials into its local supply chain. This initiative aligns with Puma’s ambitious target to incorporate 30% fibre-to-fibre recycled polyester fabric in its clothing products by 2030.
Re&Up operates using 100% renewable energy and is equipped to process a variety of textile feedstocks, which include both post-consumer and post-industrial waste. This versatility enables Puma to enhance its sustainability efforts while meeting consumer demands for high-performance materials.
Howard Williams, the director of global innovation for apparel and accessories at Puma, remarked, “As part of our Vision 2030 goals, we want to have 30% of our polyester fabric in apparel fibre-to-fibre recycled by 2030.” He elaborated on the partnership with Re&Up, emphasizing that it opens “exciting possibilities for integrating virgin-equivalent recycled materials into our products. These materials offer the performance we need while helping us achieve our circularity goals.”
Özgür Atsan, the chief commercial officer at Re&Up, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are proud to elevate our collaboration with Puma to the next level, building on our existing work through Puma’s Re:Fibre program.” Atsan highlighted Puma’s position as a pioneering force in the industry and acknowledged their shared vision of addressing the recycled material gap.
This expansion into the Americas marks a significant milestone in Puma’s sustainability journey, reflecting the company’s commitment to fostering a circular economy in the fashion industry. As the partnership with Re&Up develops, Puma aims to not only meet its sustainability targets but also lead by example in the global shift toward more responsible textile production practices.
