At the Tokyo premiere of Disney’s live-action film, Rachel Zegler unveiled an exquisite gown that pays homage to the 1937 animated classic, crafted over 250 hours.
Rachel Zegler made a striking appearance at the Tokyo premiere of Disney’s live-action adaptation of Snow White, donning an exquisite custom gown designed by Paolo Sebastian. The gown serves as a tribute to the original 1937 animated classic, encapsulating both elegance and thematic depth.
Crafted from Italian tulle, the gown features a white strapless silhouette with a caged corset bodice that showcases exposed boning. The intricate gown took a remarkable 250 hours to create by hand. Central to its design is a bejewelled heart, composed of crimson and garnet Swarovski crystals, which is pierced by a dagger fashioned from two mirror shards. This design element nods to the Evil Queen’s iconic “Magic Mirror” and the haunting motif of the “daggered heart box.”
“This custom couture gown brings to life the iconic ‘heart box’ motif from the original 1937 classic,” said Paul Vasileff, the Creative Director of Paolo Sebastian. He elaborated on the significance of the design, stating, “The daggered heart on the Evil Queen’s heart box is such a powerful icon from the Disney film archive. It’s a symbol of the dark fate that awaits Snow White, as well as one of triumph when the huntsman tricks his own queen.” Vasileff added, “Rachel’s beauty and strength in reimagining this beloved role proved our ultimate inspiration—celebrating our heroine overcoming the ultimate evil.”
Zegler completed her enchanting look with pointed white heels adorned with matching red hearts and a dramatic red hooded opera coat made from Italian silk faille. These additional elements further emphasized the fairytale’s visual drama and Zegler’s embodiment of the character.
While the Tokyo premiere was marked by spectacle and fantasy, reports suggest that Disney is taking a more subdued approach to the film’s promotional efforts in the United Kingdom. Insiders cited by The Daily Mail noted that the company has opted for a low-key strategy, likely in anticipation of potential backlash surrounding the film.
Disney’s live-action Snow White is scheduled for theatrical release on March 21, 2025, marking an important entry in the continuing trend of reimagining classic animated films for contemporary audiences.
