Reebok teams up with Walker Wear to celebrate Women’s History Month with a fresh take on the iconic Freestyle Hi sneaker and a commitment to empowering women through fashion and community engagement.

Reebok and Walker Wear are launching a new collaborative collection in honor of Women’s History Month, celebrating the contributions and empowerment of women through fashion. Scheduled for release on March 21, this collection will be available exclusively on Reebok.com and will feature a fresh take on the iconic Freestyle Hi women’s aerobics sneaker, a renowned style that emerged from the 1980s urban streetwear movement in New York City, reflecting the roots of Walker Wear.

The collaboration aligns with Reebok’s ongoing initiatives, including Human Rights Now! and United Against Racism, and is underscored by the theme “Fly Is As Fly Does.” The collection spotlights the values of unity, equality, and legacy, sought to empower women while invoking a sense of community.

The updated Freestyle Hi will feature a distinctive custom hairy suede upper adorned with metallic gold accents, hidden purple hook and loop straps, and an eye-catching patch that reads, “Lateral Cooperation Creates Vertical Movement.” Priced at $100, the earthy-toned sneaker aims to bridge past fashions with contemporary style.

April Walker, the founder of Walker Wear, remarked on the significance of the partnership, stating, “Partnering with Reebok is a testament to the power of collaboration in driving positive change… It’s about elevating women’s voices while celebrating the strength of unity and interdependence.” She emphasizes the historical context of both Reebok’s Freestyle Hi and Walker Wear, noting their integral roles within hip-hop and Black culture.

The collection not only showcases the revamped sneaker but also includes accompanying apparel pieces such as a mixed fabric jumpsuit, a fleece crew, and a short sleeve jersey tee. Reebok plans to collaborate with organizations dedicated to empowering women and marginalized communities, with a particular focus on nonprofits like Black Girls Sew, which aims to provide equal access to sewing and design facilities.

Chloe Mann, the product manager for Human Rights Now and energy collaborations at Reebok, noted, “This collection is about more than just style; it’s a call to action… The pieces reflect the power of authenticity, celebrating who we are and the change we want to see.” Mann highlights the vital role women can play as catalysts for change when given equitable opportunities.

As part of this initiative, the collaboration seeks to invite individuals to engage in a movement that promotes positive societal transformations, grounded in the principles of unity and equality. This event not only marks a celebration of Women’s History Month but also serves to bridge the past and future of women’s fashion in urban culture.
