Resurrack, a new weekend marketplace in Art Lane off Bugis Street, offers an eclectic mix of vintage and handmade goods while supporting small businesses in a creative community.
A vibrant celebration of vintage culture and creativity, Resurrack has emerged as a bustling weekend marketplace located in the back alley off Bugis Street, known as Art Lane. This flea market, launched last November, features an eclectic mix of vintage apparel, handmade trinkets, live music, and even tarot reading. It was initially established as a multi-vendor vintage store at the now-closed Peace Centre, but co-founders Portia Karl and Isaac Loh saw the potential for expansion due to the difficulties small businesses face in scaling their brands amidst high rental costs.
In an interview with Female Magazine Singapore, co-founder Portia Karl explained their mission for Resurrack. “We saw how difficult it was for them to scale their brands due to high rental costs,” she noted. After witnessing the positive response to their first store, the duo made the decision to develop a full-scale flea market that would provide new opportunities for small businesses and local talents.
Resurrack is open every weekend and has quickly gained a reputation for its lively and Instagram-friendly atmosphere that appeals to a diverse clientele, from trendy Gen Z shoppers to curious visitors of all ages. The market attracts up to 35 curated vendors each weekend, offering a wide range of goods, including vintage clothing, cameras, vinyl records, and handmade products. Among the vendors are notable names like Fairies Aisle, known for its Y2K-inspired thrift items; Azif, a retro toy seller; and a duo affectionately referred to as Uncle Ben and Alan, who specialize in vintage treasures.
Loh emphasized the curatorial approach taken in selecting vendors, stating, “Resurrack prioritizes vendors with unique collections or exciting concepts to create a fun shopping experience.” To enhance the lively atmosphere, the market also features performances and various pay-as-you-wish activities, including thrift bins, poetry writing sessions, and even hair-cutting services. The combination of eclectic offerings and engaging events has made Resurrack a popular lifestyle destination, where attendees can enjoy a rich tapestry of creativity, commerce, and community interaction.
As the marketplace continues to thrive in its unique setting, it highlights the evolving landscape of retail, spotlighting the importance of accessibility for small businesses while simultaneously fostering a vibrant community around vintage culture.
