In a Vogue India feature, Rhea Kapoor discusses her recent styling collaboration with sister Sonam, highlighting their vintage-inspired fashion choices and familial influences.

In a recent feature by Vogue India, Rhea Kapoor shared insights into her latest collaboration with sister Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, who has become a significant figure in the realm of fashion. During their styling session for the Dior Couture Show, Rhea attributed their shared artistic sensibility to familial influences, particularly from their mother and aunt. “Sonam has an appreciation for everything that goes into making a moment,” she stated.

The pair showcased their signature aesthetic with a striking flapper-inspired look, incorporating a milky white satin dress designed by Anamika Khanna. This ensemble featured decorative tassels and fringes, along with a complementing cape. The intricate design was accentuated by hand-painted florals that are reminiscent of Khanna’s well-known motifs, providing an artistic layer to the presentation.

To complete the vintage-inspired vibe, Sonam donned an array of jewelry from Amrapali Jewels, including diamond and pearl studs, a striking hasli necklace adorned with pearls, and an elegant longer necklace featuring black diamonds and a sautoir tassel. Rhea Kapoor commented on their approach to fashion, saying, “We just love to have fun with fashion without thinking too much about trends but instead gravitate toward what we find beautiful.” Their inspiration for this particular look was drawn from a Cecil Beaton portrait of Mrs. Rhoda Cameron Clarke, a notable figure of British high society in the 1930s.

Vogue India’s fashion desk provided additional guidance for those looking to emulate this style, suggesting the inclusion of vintage-inspired details such as embroidery, beading, or art deco motifs within one’s wardrobe. Recommended pieces include off-the-rack dresses or separates sourced from local designers or thrift stores, particularly items like slip dresses or satin wraps featuring detailed patterns. For accessories, the publication advocated for bold statement jewelry with geometric shapes, or a simple long string of pearls worn in an unconventional way for a contemporary twist.
