RMP Group collaborates with deeptech firm Voltanova to launch India’s lowest-cost thermal energy storage system, aiming to enhance sustainability in the textile industry.

Textile-major RMP Group has entered into a partnership with Voltanova, a deeptech firm that has been incubated by the Foundation of Science, Innovation and Development (FSID) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), to implement an innovative thermal energy storage system. This system is characterized as India’s lowest-cost thermal energy storage solution and is expected to support RMP Group’s efforts in decarbonizing its industrial operations while establishing new benchmarks for sustainability within the textile sector.

Voltanova reported that its thermal energy storage technology is capable of delivering high-temperature, 100% carbon-free industrial energy at a significantly reduced cost—specifically one-fifth the price of current battery energy storage options. The system boasts an impressive efficiency rate of 95%, effectively reducing reliance on fossil fuels by converting renewable energy sources into high-temperature industrial heat and power. As it is designed for multi-day energy storage, the technology ensures uninterrupted operations around the clock, making it particularly suited for energy-intensive industries such as steel, cement, textiles, food and beverages, chemicals, and paper.

RMP Group, which operates machinery and manufacturing units located in Panipat and Faridabad, produces an annual output of 45 million meters of fabric. The company supplies its products to several prominent global apparel brands, including Zara, H&M, American Eagle, Next, and GAP. With a strategic focus on sustainability, RMP Group is aiming to elevate its commitment in line with India’s net-zero goals, while simultaneously addressing the increasing demand for sustainable practices from leading fashion brands worldwide.
