Kimberley Gordon, founder of Selkie, introduces a striking capsule collection that navigates themes of beauty and misogyny through the art of 19th-century ballet.

Kimberley Gordon, the founder and Creative Director of Selkie, has unveiled a new capsule collection that explores themes such as beauty, misogyny, and perseverance through the lens of 19th-century ballet. The collection, which consists of 39 distinctive styles, aims to reinterpret classical ballet aesthetics, showcasing pieces such as boned tutus, ethereal tulle skirts, structured corsets, and flowing silk and cotton dresses.

In a statement regarding the vision of the collection, Gordon said, “Perfection, beauty, elegance, misogyny, sex work, secrets, and a woman’s perseverance through it all in the 19th century come to life in the form of the ballerina, captured in pastels by the revolutionary impressionist artist, Degas.” She added that this collection reflects “an ironic portrayal of incandescent beauty and pain, where art imitates life imitates art.”

The collection is set for release on March 11, 2025, and will be available exclusively through the brand’s website, Selkiecollection.com. Prices for the pieces will range from $68 to $499. The campaign images showcasing the collection were photographed by Tyler Parker, also under Gordon’s creative direction.

In addition to this new line, Selkie has recently joined the Skimlinks network, further enhancing its reach in the fashion market.
