Serena and Adam recently celebrated their wedding in a unique and intimate setting at the Woodland Mosaic, a historic solarium located within the Denver Botanic Gardens. The ceremony took place on a Sunday morning, offering a refreshing twist to the traditional wedding schedule, and featured an array of vibrant floral decorations alongside a distinctive seating chart crafted from tea bags. The event included a high tea brunch, complemented by the soothing melodies of a string quartet.
The couple drew inspiration from Sofia Coppola’s film “Marie Antoinette,” aiming to evoke a sense of opulence and femininity. In line with their vision, they opted for a reduced guest list of 60 attendees, prioritising meaningful connections over grand gestures. The couple collaborated closely with Rly Rly Studio to carefully curate the decor and overall aesthetic of their celebration.
Serena highlighted some logistical advantages of hosting a morning wedding, stating, “Having a Sunday morning wedding cut the venue costs, alcohol costs, and music costs in half.” However, this choice came with the trade-off of foregoing dancing, which they felt was manageable given their thematic approach. In a personal touch, Serena acquired her wedding dress through a sample sale, significantly reducing expenses.
The ceremony unfolded in a heartfelt manner, with the couple walking down the aisle hand in hand to their chosen song, “Harvest Moon.” Following the official vows, they opted for private vows exchanged immediately after, alongside keeping speeches exclusive to their rehearsal dinner the night before. This intimacy extended to their preparation, as they got ready together on the morning of the wedding, a decision that added to the day’s uniqueness.
While the couple embraced a less conventional approach, they did encounter some challenges, particularly regarding their guest list. “One of the hardest things was figuring out the guest list and balancing the budget,” Serena reflected. She noted the pressure to conform to typical wedding trends but emphasised the importance of making choices that aligned with their personal vision. They consciously redirected their finances towards photography, enlisting Ashley Joyce, whom they described as amazing, and opted for simpler invitations and floral arrangements.
Serena also shared insight into the societal expectations surrounding weddings, asserting, “People often say, ‘It’s your day! Do whatever you want, don’t worry about the guests!’ but this is not true!” She expressed the belief that a wedding day should consider the guests’ experiences, stating, “Your wedding doesn’t give you a pass to inconvenience others, even when it can become inconvenient for you.”
The couple’s wedding experience was a reflection of their priorities and values, resulting in a memorable celebration that balanced intimacy with distinctive personal touches.
