Attendees discussed sustainable apparel growth and the importance of embracing innovative technologies for future advancements in Bangladesh’s textile sector.
On 11th February 2025, Shima Seiki, a prominent innovator in the textile machinery sector, along with their partner Pacific Associates Ltd., hosted a seminar at the Radisson Blu hotel in Dhaka. The focal point of the event was Shima Seiki’s flagship WholeGarment Technology, featuring live demonstrations and samples that showcased the capabilities of this advanced knitting solution. The seminar attracted over 150 industry leaders, who engaged in discussions about the benefits of this technology.
Mr. Md. Shahabuddin, Managing Director of Pacific Associates Ltd., expressed gratitude towards the apparel manufacturers and buyers for their attendance. He articulated the importance of sustainable growth within the apparel industry, which significantly contributes to the nation’s economy. He underscored that absorbing new technology and embracing automation are pivotal for future advancements. Mr. Shahabuddin remarked, “Shima Seiki is the industry leader in their field and their WholeGarment is a must consideration for further growth and investment.”
In his address, Mr. Mitsuhiro Shima, President of Shima Seiki, welcomed the attendees and acknowledged the long-standing trust that customers in Bangladesh have placed in the company. He highlighted the substantial potential that Bangladesh possesses within the apparel sector, despite its current focus on basic products. He commended the nation’s readiness to adopt innovative technologies that can enhance product quality while reducing reliance on human intervention.
Mr. Shima noted, “What we are trying to focus on is not just to sell the machines but also provide training and improve skills of the entire market by training the technicians in our client’s premises to be able to use our advanced technology to its fullest as we want our customers to make profit.” His speech also emphasised the longstanding partnership with Pacific Associates Ltd. and the commitment to advancing WholeGarment technology, alongside basic machine offerings and auto-cutting technology.
The WholeGarment innovation, introduced by Shima Seiki in 1994/1995, revolutionises knitting by allowing for seamless production of three-dimensional knitwear. This technology not only eliminates the need for cutting and sewing, which are traditionally labour-intensive and time-consuming processes, but it also ensures an ideal fit and comfort. WholeGarment knitwear is touted as sustainable because it utilises only the material necessary for a single garment, leading to less waste.
Additionally, the integration of APEX-4 with WholeGarment machines creates a holistic Total Knitting System, streamlining the process from design to sales promotion. The 3D sample option available with this system is designed to save time and costs while increasing sample acceptance rates. With the rapid shifts in consumer demand characteristic of fast fashion, manufacturers are required to remain responsive, thus rendering WholeGarment technology a crucial asset for success in the industry.
Shima Seiki continues to extend its offerings of WholeGarment machines to the Bangladeshi market, aiming to foster development and innovation in local apparel manufacturing practices. The collaboration between Shima Seiki and Pacific Associates Ltd. reflects a focused approach towards enhancing the capabilities of Bangladesh’s textile industry, paving the way for a more technologically advanced future.
