Aria and Aashna Mehta shine in rare vintage silk sarees from Hermès, showcasing a blend of Western luxury and Indian tradition at the high-profile wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant.

In a noteworthy display of fashion and cultural heritage, Shloka Mehta’s cousins Aria and Aashna Mehta adorned themselves in rare vintage-style silk sarees during the extravagant wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant. The wedding, which took place over a year ago, continues to be a topic of conversation, particularly due to the striking sartorial choices made by the guests.

The sarees worn by Aria and Aashna were not just any garments; they were part of a limited collection launched by the renowned French luxury brand Hermès in 2011. The label produced only 28 sarees specifically for the Indian market, priced between USD 6,100 and USD 8,400. These unique six-yard pieces quickly sold out, capturing the attention of style enthusiasts worldwide.

Aria Mehta, wearing an orange-hued saree from the Hermès collection, shared her style journey, explaining that the saree once belonged to their mother, who purchased it when she was merely 11 years old from a boutique known for its quality. According to Aria, her mother’s sales assistant had recognized her fondness for art and design, offering her two sarees with the thought that they would one day be cherished by her daughters. “My mum’s sales assistant knew she liked to collect art and design, so they offered her two. She thought it would be something nice for us one day. And yeah—will definitely be passing these down to my kids when I have them!” Aria was quoted as saying in an interview.

The saree worn by Aria was styled with a sleeveless shimmery golden blouse and secured at the pallu with an emerald diamond ring, adding elegance to her attire. Her ensemble was further accented by classic jewelry that included a golden choker layered with a diamond necklace, a stunning red beaded necklace, and diamond earrings, along with matching bangles and a potli bag. For her makeup, Aria opted for a subtle look with minimal eyeshadow, sharp contouring, and a glowing highlighter, creating a harmonious balance with her traditional attire.

Aria expressed admiration for Hermès’ efforts in designing sarees that celebrate Indian culture. “When the saris came out, I think she was really drawn to how Hermès, a major French house, made something so beautiful for India. Something truly informed by Indian culture,” she said. “It was such a great intersection of craftsmanship and innovation, which is something that really inspires us, ones that genuinely put Eastern perspectives forward rather than just borrowing aesthetics.”

The noteworthy choice of attire at Anant and Radhika’s wedding not only highlighted individual fashion statements but also showcased a meaningful cultural exchange, reflecting the blending of Western luxury with traditional Indian craftsmanship. The presence of such distinctive pieces at a high-profile event like this emphasizes the continued relevance of cultural narratives in the realm of fashion.
