Michigan: Olivia Gilcher, a University of Michigan student, found two vintage Gucci watches while thrift shopping for $100. Her viral unboxing video showcased the watches’ authenticity. Despite their desirability, she decided to sell them for $650, embracing the excitement of treasure hunting.

Olivia Gilcher, a student at the University of Michigan with a passion for jewellery, recently made a remarkable discovery while thrift shopping that has gained significant attention on social media. Known for her love of collecting unique pieces, Olivia frequently purchases mystery boxes and shares her unboxing experiences with her followers on platforms like TikTok.

Her latest find occurred at a local consignment shop, where Olivia spent $100 on a bag filled with unknown trinkets. Among these items, she was thrilled to uncover a pair of vintage Gucci watches from the 1980s. These designer watches, which were once highly coveted and saw buyers queuing outside stores for a chance to purchase them, have an estimated worth of hundreds of dollars. Olivia’s unboxing video featuring the discovery went viral, attracting numerous views and positive reactions from her online community of jewellery enthusiasts.

In an interview with Newsweek, Olivia described the moment she found the watches: “When I pulled out the watch, my heart stopped, and my hands started shaking.” Her familiarity with luxury items, gained from previous work at a luxury watch company, equipped her with the knowledge to authenticate the pieces. She meticulously inspected the engraved logo, SKU number, and the mechanism under the cover, confirming their authenticity.

Despite her excitement, Olivia noted that the watches were not the right fit for her. “I had dreamed of them for many years, but as a student, any extra income is always tempting. When I tried the watch on, it felt a bit tight, and I realized it wasn’t for me,” she said. She has decided to list the watch for sale at $650, with hopes of one day finding a similar piece that suits her perfectly.

This incident echoes recent reports of other thrift store finds, including a story published by Focus, which highlighted British woman Kay Walker’s joyful discovery of a jacket at the “Emmaus Mossley” thrift store in Greater Manchester. Walker unknowingly found a surprising item hidden in the pocket of the jacket, showcasing the potential treasures that can be uncovered in thrift shops. Additionally, there are tales of a blogger scoring a designer accessory worth thousands of dollars for mere cents at a Goodwill Outlet thrift store, highlighting the serendipitous nature of thrift shopping and the excitement of discovering hidden gems.

Olivia Gilcher’s experience exemplifies the thrill of treasure hunting in thrift stores and online marketplaces, inspiring fellow collectors and fashion enthusiasts to explore these avenues in pursuit of unique, high-value items.
