A remarkable collaboration between luxury performance brand Templa and ALLIED Feather + Down has resulted in a puffer jacket that will fully biodegrade in five years, pushing the boundaries of eco-conscious outerwear.
A collaboration between luxury performance brand Templa and ALLIED Feather + Down (AF+D) has led to the creation of a groundbreaking puffer jacket designed to entirely disappear within five years when exposed to anaerobic environments. This innovative garment incorporates 800 fill power down insulation, combined with biodegradable synthetic fibers, representing a significant advancement in eco-conscious outerwear technology.
The objective of this collaboration is to address and mitigate the carbon footprint typically associated with traditional production methods. The jacket is made up of 99% biodegradable materials, a feat verified through validation tests conducted by Amni Soul Eco by Solvay and CiCLO, ensuring that the fabrics adhere to sustainability standards. The premium trims are sourced from Active Apparel Group (AAG), known for their performance wear manufacturing.
The unique design of this puffer jacket, which is set to launch in September 2025 as part of Templa’s Fall/Winter 2025 – Edition 12 Collection, recently garnered the prestigious 2024 ISPO Award. This accomplishment positions it as a frontrunner in the initiative aimed at producing performance recyclable outerwear through the use of biomaterials. The project marks the start of ALLIED’s new Future Now: program, which is aimed at integrating sustainable practices into high-performance apparel.
Matthew Betcher, creative director of ALLIED, highlighted the jacket’s innovative approach, stating that down serves as an ideal insulation material when paired with biodegradable fabrics and trims. He articulated that down is “supremely suited for use in any sustainability-minded apparel program” due to its status as “a renewable, biodegradable by-product of the food supply chain.” Moreover, down’s characteristics extend beyond being biodegradable; it is also recyclable and has a remarkably low carbon footprint as a raw material.
In combining luxury with functionality, Templa’s puffer jacket is designed not only for performance in alpine environments but also retains a stylish appeal for urban settings. With waterproof capabilities, this garment exemplifies the brand’s commitment to providing high-end outdoor apparel that aligns with contemporary sustainability practices, ultimately designed to leave no trace behind.
