Designer Templa and partners introduce a 99%+ biodegradable down puffy jacket, aiming to revolutionize the fashion industry and reduce landfill waste.
In an innovative venture aimed at transforming the fashion industry, designer Templa, in collaboration with ALLIED Feather + Down (AF+D) and Active Apparel Group (AAG), has introduced a pioneering garment: a 99%+ biodegradable down puffy jacket. This initiative, titled “Future Now: Designing to Disappear,” seeks to address the significant environmental challenges posed by traditional synthetic jackets, which can persist in landfills for centuries.
Scheduled for release in September 2025 as part of Templa’s FW25 – Edition 12 Collection, the jacket is designed to decompose entirely within approximately five years, provided it is placed in an anaerobic environment, such as underground. This innovative approach offers a sustainable alternative to conventional outerwear by utilizing biodegradable materials that contribute less to landfill waste.
The jacket boasts features including biodegradable 800 fill power down insulation and synthetic fabrics, as well as trims sourced by AAG, all of which have been rigorously tested to ensure they meet the 99%+ biodegradability standard. Combining Templa’s stylish performance silhouettes with eco-friendly materials, the design aims to maintain the aesthetic appeal typical of fashionable puffer jackets, emphasizing that sustainability doesn’t necessitate compromise on style.
Speaking to Yanko Design, representatives from Templa articulated a vision of how fashion and sustainability can coexist harmoniously. The collaboration not only showcases the potential for high-quality, stylish garments to also be environmentally responsible but also serves to encourage the broader fashion industry to adopt more sustainable practices without sacrificing style or affordability.
The announcement of this biodegradable down jacket has sparked interest within the fashion community, raising questions about the industry’s commitment to sustainable innovation. As consumers await the arrival of this revolutionary piece, the collaboration between Templa, AF+D, and AAG highlights the growing demand for environmentally conscious apparel and sets a new benchmark for future fashion initiatives.
