London: The article explores the significant evolution of golf fashion since 1918, spotlighting brands like Macade, Mr P., and Lululemon. It highlights key innovations in design and technology, catering to both style-conscious and performance-driven golfers in an increasingly fashionable sport.

In a landscape where golf is increasingly harmonising style with functionality, the evolution of golf fashion has seen significant strides since 1918, when Vanity Fair first praised golfers for their sartorial choices. This notable shift is underpinned by innovative designs and activewear technologies, appealing to both amateur enthusiasts desiring chic attire and seasoned players focused on performance.

Emerging on the golf scene since its inception in 2019, Macade has quickly gained traction among elite players, including PGA Tour champion Alex Noren and Garrick Higgo, a three-time European Tour winner. Although not yet widely recognised in the UK, Macade has established itself as a go-to brand for golfers across the United States. Key pieces from their collection include the wind shirt, which features a hooded design that shields wearers from unpredictable weather while allowing for temperature control, and a dual-material tour belt crafted for comfort on the course.

Mr Porter, a thriving luxury retailer since 2011, introduced its in-house brand, Mr P., in 2017. Recently, Mr P. collaborated with the LA-based golf fashion brand G/Fore to launch an exclusive 12-piece golfwear capsule collection. Noteworthy items from this venture include a crocheted bucket hat and a vibrant pink piqué polo shirt, both designed to stand out on and off the greens.

Canadian activewear giant Lululemon has primarily been celebrated for its yoga wear, yet its foray into golf has not gone unnoticed. The brand offers a selection of essentials, including classic polos equipped with anti-odour technology and tapered trousers that combine style with comfort. Their Evolution piqué polo shirt is particularly notable for its lightweight material, while the Sojourn Warpstreme Golf Jacket is set to be a reliable ally against colder conditions.

A stalwart in the golfing world, Lyle & Scott has been producing stylish men’s clothing since 1874 and remains committed solely to golf apparel. With a focus on knitwear, the brand’s tech golf gilet and versatile wool-blend crew neck jumper are ideal for transitioning from professional settings to the golf course without compromising on style.

Since its first golf collection launched in 1987, Ralph Lauren has been instrumental in introducing fashionable golf attire. In 1998, the brand magnified its impact by creating RLX Golf, aimed at providing both players and spectators with clothing that combines aesthetics with practical features. Popular offerings include the hybrid mockneck gilet and a tailored fit performance polo shirt, both designed from moisture-wicking materials for enhanced comfort during play.

Manors, founded in 2019 by golfer Jojo Regan and colleagues, aims to redefine golf as an elite sport known for its stylish attire. With fashion director Nick Watts at the helm, the brand has drawn attention for its unique collaboration with Adidas and its focus on retro styles, featuring key items such as blacks greenskeeper trousers and fashionable crown caps, which can be seamlessly integrated into casual wardrobes.

Finally, Bogner, a renowned skiwear brand established in 1938, has made a foray into golf fashion, gaining recognition when professional golfer Bernhard Langer donned its creations on the course in 2020. The brand’s collection merges technical fabrics with vivid colours, ensuring visibility on the course. Standout pieces include the patterned Valentin polo shirt and the water-repellent Akeno functional trousers, catering to both bold and subtle style preferences.

As golf continues to evolve, these luxury brands contribute significantly to the sport’s fashionable image, ensuring that both functionality and style remain at the forefront.
