The Jewelry Symposium, scheduled for May 17-20, 2025, in Michigan, will emphasize advancements in manufacturing technology and sustainable practices within the jewelry industry.

The Jewelry Symposium (TJS), an international event focused on advancing jewelry manufacturing technology, is scheduled to take place from May 17 to May 20, 2025, at the Detroit Marriott Troy in Michigan. This year’s iteration of the symposium will prioritize discussions on new technologies and sustainability, addressing the evolving needs of the jewelry industry.

Linus Drogs, Chairman of the Board for TJS, highlighted the significant interest in this year’s event, stating, “We had an unprecedented number of proposals and abstracts for 2025, and we are delighted that many of our respected presenters will be focusing on timely and important issues like sustainability and technology.” The symposium will feature presentations not only on its traditional focus areas of metallurgy and craftsmanship but also on important contemporary topics, including the sustainable sourcing of traceable gemstones and innovative technologies like additive manufacturing and artificial intelligence in jewelry design and production.

Industry experts from across the globe will present a wealth of knowledge to a diverse audience, encompassing bench jewelers, designers, manufacturers, students, retailers, and media representatives. Among the speakers, Scott Bradford of Gesswein will demonstrate CAD techniques and software aimed at enhancing jewelry design, while consultant Anne Miller will delve into generative AI applications. Joseph Strauss from HJE Company, Inc. is slated to discuss recent advances in additive manufacturing, particularly in the realm of sinter-based 3-D printing.

On the sustainability front, Eric Braunwart of Columbia Gem House and consultant Frank Cooper will focus on issues surrounding the traceability of colored gemstones, contributing to the broader dialogue on ethical sourcing within the jewelry industry. Drogs emphasized the importance of the symposium’s open exchange of information, stating that sharing detailed analysis and expertise acts as a catalyst for further advancements in jewelry manufacturing technology worldwide.
