Tracee Ellis Ross made a glamorous return to the runway on September 27, 2023, marking her first appearance on the catwalk in over 30 years. The 52-year-old actress, best known for her role in the popular television series “Black-ish,” walked in the Marni fall 2025 show at the prestigious Milan Fashion Week.
Ross showcased a striking bright yellow gown that featured a black-and-white lightning bolt design along with fur-trimmed cuffs. The ensemble was complemented by strappy sandals in vibrant hues of red, mint green, and metallic gold. Speaking about her outfit, Ross expressed her enthusiasm to Vogue, saying, “It’s yellow, elegant, fun, and made for me — so I loved it. I felt like a slinky, foxy, burst of sunshine in it.”
Her stylistic choices were not only a personal statement but also a reflection of her friendship with Marni’s creative director, Francesco Risso. Ross praised Risso’s creativity, stating, “Francesco is full of so much love, creativity and artistry — it’s why he and I are friends. His clothes and shows are always a beautiful expression of his work and virtuosity, so it felt exciting.”
The event stirred nostalgia for Ross, as the night before her runway show, she shared a video on Instagram that took her back to her modeling debut in 1991. In the caption, she reminisced, “MEMORIES // walking for @muglerofficial in ‘90 with my mama @dianaross, and again, by myself, in ‘91… I don’t think I’ve been on a runway since!” This moment was particularly memorable as her mother, legendary singer Diana Ross, had also walked the runway alongside her at Thierry Mugler’s shows.
Tracee Ellis Ross recounted the backstory of that early experience, revealing that her mother had received a request to model in Mugler’s well-known “Butterfly Show.” Not wanting to part with her daughter’s aspirations, Diana Ross made arrangements to include Tracee, who was just weeks shy of her 18th birthday at the time. “She knew that I would s—t my Guess jeans at the chance to model for real because I desperately wanted to be a model,” Ross explained in an earlier Instagram post.
Following her runway appearance, praise flooded in from fans and colleagues alike. Rita Wilson was among those who commented on Ross’ Instagram, exclaiming, “All so good!” Numerous others described the actress as “fierce,” “stunning,” and “fabulous.”
