United Legwear & Apparel Co. partners with Worldly to adopt a Product Impact Calculator aimed at reducing carbon emissions and enhancing supply chain transparency.
United Legwear & Apparel Co. (ULAC) has made a significant advancement in its sustainability efforts by adopting Worldly’s Product Impact Calculator, a tool designed to assist companies in the apparel and consumer goods sectors in tracking their supply chain greenhouse gas emissions. This innovative software promises to enhance ULAC’s ability to manage its environmental impact, aligning with the company’s ambitious goal of reducing its carbon emissions.
Christopher Volpe, the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of ULAC, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Worldly, stating, “This innovative product not only helps us measure and track our GHG emissions more efficiently, saving us time and resources, but also empowers us to make informed decisions that drive real environmental progress.” The implementation of the Product Impact Calculator marks a shift from traditional industry GHG averages to a more precise assessment based on actual supply chain data.
ULAC has set a target to reduce Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 42% by the year 2030, a goal that has received validation from the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Additionally, the introduction of the Product Impact Calculator will enable ULAC to incorporate primary supply chain data from the Higg Facility Environmental Module into its analysis of Scope 3 emissions for the first time, an important area as this level typically accounts for over 90% of emissions in the apparel sector.
The company is also committed to increasing the use of sustainable and regenerative fibers by 5-10% annually, which includes materials such as recycled polyester and organic cotton. This is part of ULAC’s broader strategy to align its product lines with environmentally responsible practices and to demonstrate leadership in sustainability within the apparel industry.
As companies like ULAC face mounting pressures to improve their environmental practices, tools such as the Product Impact Calculator are becoming essential in meeting reduction targets and complying with emerging regulatory standards. The emphasis on primary data collection and innovative solutions signifies a critical step towards achieving meaningful sustainability across the industry.
