Toiletry bags, fanny packs, and pillow covers crafted from materials used in Taylor Swift’s summer concerts are now on sale in Gelsenkirchen, supporting local causes.
Toiletry bags, fanny packs, and pillow covers made from materials originally used during the highly anticipated summer concerts of pop sensation Taylor Swift are now available for purchase in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Starting Monday, the products, fashioned from banners and flags labeled “Swiftkirchen,” are being sold to support local initiatives.
The initiative stems from the three concerts that took place in July 2024, which attracted roughly 200,000 Taylor Swift enthusiasts from around the globe to the city, humorously renamed “Swiftkirchen” for the occasion. After the concerts, part of the decorating materials used during the events was raffled off, while another segment has been artfully upcycled into over 300 unique handmade items in the weeks and months since the concerts.
The selection of products includes cases, shirts, wristbands, and phone bags, all crafted with care and creativity. To ensure fair access, there is a limit of three unique items per person to encourage broad participation in the initiative.
The upcycled goods were produced by employees from partnering organizations, including Werkstätten Sozialwerk St. Georg, Begegnungsstätte Haverkamp, Gelsenkirchener Werkstätten, and Caritas Herne. According to the city’s report, the proceeds from the sales are set to be fully returned to these organizations, underscoring the commitment of the staff who worked diligently on this project, bringing both dedication and technical skill to the production process.
The “wertGEschätzt” label, which translates to “valued,” was introduced during the European Football Championship and is also featured on the Swiftkirchen products. This label signifies the upcycling campaign’s dedication to sustainability and community support. It is also intended to be applied to future projects, showcasing Gelsenkirchen’s ongoing commitment to environmentally friendly initiatives and community engagement.
