Phoenix entrepreneurs launch Valley Rays to provide stylish, durable eyewear while supporting local hunger initiatives.
In 2023, Phoenix entrepreneurs Anthony DeVito and Shane Eberspacher launched Valley Rays, a sunglasses brand designed to meet the challenges of the intense Arizona sun. Leveraging their engineering backgrounds, the duo is focused on creating stylish and durable eyewear suitable for a variety of activities ranging from jogging to mountain biking.
The brand has already introduced two models: the Phoenix and the Sedona, with plans for a third design currently underway. DeVito emphasized their goal, stating, “Our goal is to have five really popular models.” The sunglasses utilize Lucid Lens technology, initially developed for Navy SEALs, which offers a lightweight alternative to glass without compromising clarity. The frames are made from sustainable castor bean oil, providing both flexibility and durability.
Valley Rays positions itself as a competitor to established brands like Oakley and Ray-Ban by striving to deliver “premium quality without the big-brand price tag.” Additionally, the brand is committed to social responsibility by donating a portion of its profits to AzBrainfood, a nonprofit organization in Phoenix dedicated to addressing local hunger issues. DeVito noted the personal connection this mission holds for him and Eberspacher, particularly as they are both new fathers, saying, “There are kids in our city who don’t know if they’re going to eat this weekend. We believe in what’s called business as a purpose.”
The focus on quality, sustainability, and community impact reflects a modern business ethos, as Valley Rays looks to carve out a niche in the competitive eyewear market. More information about their products and philanthropic efforts can be found on their website, valleyrays.com.
