London: The Vans Premium Old Skool Music Collection celebrates the history of its iconic sneaker through music-inspired designs. Set to launch monthly starting February 13, the collection combines aesthetics from punk, hip-hop, and other genres with enhanced comfort and performance features.

The Vans Premium Old Skool Music Collection is set to celebrate the storied history of the iconic Old Skool sneaker through a series of releases that fuse music history with contemporary style. Originally launched in 1977, the Old Skool, known as Style 36, marked a significant milestone as the first Vans skate shoe to showcase the now-famous Sidestripe™. The sneaker has long been associated with various countercultures, serving as a canvas for creativity and rebellion within the punk, hip-hop, and broader underground music scenes.

The collection will unveil three distinct drops, each embodying pivotal moments in music and skate culture, while also upgrading the shoe’s comfort and fit. According to SA Life Magazine, “the Premium Old Skool Music Collection remixes prints and colours from music’s most defining moments.”

The first drop is rooted in the vibrant aesthetic of punk and hardcore music from the 1970s and 1980s, featuring bold leopard prints and standout solid colours. The second drop draws inspiration from the Vans Warped Tour era, capturing the energy of mosh pits and stage dives with Classic Checkerboard patterns, two-tone colourways, and flame prints that reflect the rebellious spirit of the early 2000s. The final release revisits the underground hip-hop scene, showcasing vibrant colourways on gum soles that highlight the shoe’s cultural significance during that period.

In addition to its aesthetic updates, the Premium Old Skool features enhancements designed for increased comfort and performance. This latest iteration includes upgraded cushioning, a refined fit, and 30% biobased Sola Foam ADC insoles, aimed at delivering all-day wearability. Additional design features such as glossy sidewalls, higher foxing tape, and nostalgic branding elements echo the 1990s style, exemplifying the Old Skool’s ability to evolve while remaining grounded in its legacy.

The Vans Premium Old Skool Music Collection will officially release monthly, beginning on February 13, with availability at Vans retail locations and online at Vans.co.za.
