With a design nod to the iconic Vans Serio, the new Super Lowpro sneaker blends nostalgia with modern aesthetics, set to launch in 2025.
The 1980s are widely recognized as a pivotal period in sneaker history, marked by significant developments in design and culture. Notable events from this era include the debut of the iconic Jordan 1 in 1984 and the rise of skate culture in California. Additionally, the influential hip-hop group Run-DMC immortalized sneakers in their 1986 hit “My Adidas,” introducing the genre’s connection to streetwear culture.
Among the prominent contributions to sneaker history from that decade was the Vans Serio, which gained popularity thanks to its innovative marketing strategies and memorable advertisements. As a nod to this legacy, Vans is set to release a new model inspired by the Serio: the Vans Super Lowpro, slated for 2025.
This forthcoming sneaker is characterized by its low profile, zigzag lacing, T-Toe shape, and features the Serio tongue logo, blending nostalgia with modern aesthetics. The Super Lowpro draws its primary influence from the OG Vans Serio Competition Shoe Style 84, maintaining key elements such as an additional low midsole typical of running shoes from that era and the signature Sidestripe, which has been updated to feature a two-layer design.
In terms of comfort and performance, the new model incorporates EVA foam, enhancing flexibility and cushioning for wearers. Angela Ardila Coutts, Head of Design in Advanced Concepts at Vans, noted the creative process behind the Super Lowpro, stating, “For inspiration, we dug deep into the Vans archives and discovered the Vans Serio collection, our vintage runner from the 1980s. We were inspired to reinterpret the silhouette, so we set to work on a low-profile sneaker that pays tribute to Vans’ heritage while also connecting to today’s trends.”
As of today, the Vans Super Lowpro is available in a Racing Red colorway with a starting price of €100 through the official Vans website. Additional color options, including Marshmallow and Sepia Rose, are set to launch online in April. The release is anticipated to attract both longtime Vans enthusiasts and new customers who appreciate the blend of historical design with modern sneaker technology.
