The second edition of the #EmpowerHer Talk Series at Victoria Urban Terminal will focus on women leading the charge for a circular economy in Mauritius.

In celebration of International Women’s Day this month, the Victoria Urban Terminal (VUT), the leading multimodal mobility hub in Mauritius, is hosting the second edition of its #EmpowerHer Talk Series. This event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 6:00 PM at the VUT located in Port-Louis.

The theme for this year’s series is “Women Leading the Circular Revolution,” aimed at highlighting the efforts of Mauritian women who are dedicated to better resource management. Attendees will gain insights into how these women are innovating, transforming, and driving initiatives that seek to maximize the use of existing resources, minimize waste, and promote eco-responsibility.

The concept of a circular economy is built on principles of reuse, repair, recycling, and waste reduction, alongside optimizing existing resources. In a global context where ecological challenges are escalating, Mauritius is experiencing a continuous increase in solid waste, with volumes surpassing 539,000 tons in 2023. This figure represents an annual growth rate of 2.5% over the past decade. The women participating in this event have proposed various sustainable and relevant solutions to address these pressing issues through their concrete actions and visionary approaches.

The discussions will be initiated by Arti Ram, the General Manager of the Victoria Urban Terminal, who will introduce a panel of women deeply engaged in the field of sustainability. The panel includes Nathalia Vadamootoo, founder of Baz Zero GaspiyaZ; Lucile Jackson Wong, Manager at WeCycle; Victoria Desvaux, a circular economy consultant and founder of Joyful Ecologies; and Rashmit Rathi, a student and public relations officer of the NGO MauRevive. Each panelist will share their personal journeys, the challenges they have faced, and the innovative solutions they propose to facilitate the transition towards a circular economy in Mauritius. The discussions will be moderated by Manishma Ram Nauris.

This event is part of the ongoing engagement and dialogue surrounding sustainable practices and resource management in Mauritius, reflecting the commitment to fostering innovative solutions within the community.
