At just 20 years old, Ergün has transformed her childhood passion for fashion into a growing business, creating jobs and selling her designs internationally.

In the Cudi neighborhood of Cizre, a young entrepreneur named Ergün has turned her passion for fashion into a thriving business. Starting out by designing and sewing children’s costumes at home with the help of her family, Ergün has now established her own workshop, employing 12 people and utilizing 10 sewing machines.

At the age of just 20, Ergün sought support from the Small and Medium Enterprises Development and Support Administration (KOSGEB) and successfully received assistance in acquiring machinery to launch her venture. The workshop spans 50 square meters and specializes in creating dresses for girls aged 0-14, which are sold both through her social media accounts and in a physical store.

Speaking to an Anadolu Agency reporter, Ergün reflected on her journey, revealing that her interest in fashion began in the fourth grade, inspired by outfits she saw in television series. She began sketching clothes, and during the pandemic, she used her time to develop various designs, which she tested on her siblings and nieces before selling them online.

“I am currently providing employment for 12 people. I want to grow my business to provide more employment for women,” Ergün expressed. Her ambition to expand is matched by her successful sales, which have reached international markets, including countries such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, England, Germany, and Iraq. So far, she has shipped around 20 products by cargo, highlighting the reach of her budding business.

Ergün’s determination is supported by her family, which she credits as pivotal to her success. “I love what I do. We produce harmoniously in the workshop together with the employees,” she remarked.

One of her employees, 19-year-old Belgin Enç, shared her enthusiasm for working in Ergün’s workshop, noting that the young age of the owner creates a relatable environment. “The young age of the workshop owner is a great advantage for us. She understands our situation,” Enç stated, emphasizing the positive workplace culture.

Rukiye Ergün, Ergün’s mother, expressed her pride in her daughter’s accomplishments, noting that her passion for clothing design has been evident since childhood. She added, “My daughter brought this dream to life at home during the pandemic and sold the clothes she produced through social media. Now she has established a workshop with support. We are proud of her.”

Ergün’s story illustrates a rapid rise from a home-based hobby to a successful business, showcasing her commitment to not only her craft but also to uplifting others within her community through job creation.
