A prominent Vinted seller known as @pastgems shares insights on how to effectively sell old clothes, emphasizing the importance of quality photography and swift shipping.
Individuals considering decluttering their wardrobes are being encouraged to rethink their approach to disposing of old clothes. Vinted, a platform well-regarded for promoting sustainable shopping by facilitating the buying and selling of second-hand items, offers an avenue for earning cash from these cast-offs. One prominent seller on the platform has garnered attention for her impressive success, reportedly making around £100,000 from her sales.
The seller, known on TikTok as @pastgems, has been sharing her insights with her 22,000 followers, emphasizing the importance of high-quality photographs to attract buyers. “Clear and aesthetic photos,” she advises, are essential, and if professional studio lighting is not accessible, using a simple clip-on light for a smartphone can significantly enhance the quality. “I promise you it makes such a difference,” she noted.
Alongside photography, she highlights the necessity for swift shipping. While acknowledging the challenges of managing shipping around a busy schedule, she pointed out that “shipping quickly will get you repeat buyers because they know they can rely on you,” as reported by the Express.
@pastgems also advised against reaching out to users who have liked items, believing that such actions may detract from the desirability of the products. “If they wanted to buy it, they would,” she explained. “In my opinion, that makes your item not desirable at all; it kind of seems like you’re desperate to get rid of the item, which is not what you want.”
Her guidelines also include a strong stance on reservations. She noted that “90% of the time,” reserved items do not result in sales, suggesting that such practices allow buyers too much time to reconsider. “If they really wanted to buy, they would find a way,” she stated, recounting her own experiences that led to her decision against reservations.
When it comes to negotiating offers, the TikTok user presents an unconventional strategy, advising sellers not to accept initial offers. Instead, she recommends countering with a slight increase, typically by £2 or £3. “They always, always buy,” she explained, despite being unable to pinpoint exactly why this tactic proves effective. Her followers have echoed her success, reporting positive results after applying her advice.
Engagement with her content has been significant, with viewers actively asking questions about best practices for listing items and optimal posting times on Vinted. In a recent post, @pastgems shared her success, stating, “Just sold 25+ items on Vinted in a single day,” reinforcing the effectiveness of her selling strategies as demonstrated by her substantial sales performance.
