Renowned designer Anya Hindmarch celebrates the launch of her pop-up store Air Anya, inspired by the golden age of air travel, during London Fashion Week.
Anya Hindmarch, the renowned British designer and entrepreneur, hosted a breakfast event on the final day of London Fashion Week to celebrate the launch of her latest concept store, Air Anya. The store, which drew inspiration from the design and aesthetic of 1970s air travel and the golden era of airline experiences, is located on Pont Street in Chelsea. It is set to operate as a pop-up venue until April 6.
The Air Anya shop is designed to evoke the ambiance of a luxury airline cabin, complete with elements reminiscent of a glamorous travel experience. Upon entering, patrons encounter features such as airline seats, a check-in desk, and display units fashioned to look like serving trays, prominently featuring a light blue color reminiscent of Pan Am’s branding. The breakfast spread offered to attendees included a variety of items served in these trays, featuring yoghurt with compote, granola cups, avocado toast, and croissants adorned with pats of butter shaped like smiley faces.
Hindmarch elaborated on the concept behind Air Anya, stating that it arises from her longstanding affection for organization and control while traveling, particularly in the confined space of an airplane. The store showcases a range of travel accessories that include trolley bags, totes, and vanity cases designed with numerous pockets for convenience. Customers can personalize their selections with letters and inscriptions. In addition, the shop features a diverse assortment of accessories such as leather luggage tags and passport holders, baseball caps, mugs, and themed pins labeled “Pilot,” “Cabin Crew,” and “Air Traffic Control.”
Hindmarch’s achievements extend beyond this venture, as she has recently been honored with a damehood for her contributions to fashion and business. Earlier this month, she received the accolade from King Charles at Buckingham Palace, where she wore a bespoke blue suit designed by Emilia Wickstead and carried a silver handbag styled as a crisp packet, reflecting her innovative approach to fashion.
Speaking about her experience at Buckingham Palace, Hindmarch expressed pride in her British heritage, noting the warm welcome she received. The discussion with King Charles also touched upon significant topics such as sustainability and innovative materials. She referenced her iconic “I Am Not a Plastic Bag” cotton tote bag, which gained immense popularity upon its launch in 2007, indicating her commitment to eco-friendly practices.
The opening of Air Anya not only marks another chapter in Hindmarch’s evolving portfolio but also highlights her ability to intertwine her fashion philosophy with personal experiences and broader environmental concerns. The store’s establishment in Chelsea is part of a wider collection of Anya Hindmarch stores that focus on bespoke home accessories and seasonal collections, contributing to an area she has named The Village.
