At the recent showcase for the fall Ports 1961 collection, design director Francesco Bertolini unveiled a collection marked by a distinct clarity and precision. This event, highlighting Bertolini’s sophomore effort with the brand, took place against the backdrop of New York’s bustling fashion scene.
Bertolini’s designs prominently featured handsome tailoring that left a lasting impression on attendees. Key pieces included tweed pencil-skirted, belted suits and innovative egg-shaped peacoats completed with a martingale, which enhanced the collection’s modern aesthetic. A striking black belted pantsuit stood out, characterized by patch pockets delicately edged in chiffon, creating a contrast to its sharp silhouette. Additionally, a coat adorned with mother-of-pearl buttons running down the back added a touch of elegance.
Emphasizing flexibility and functionality, Bertolini presented chameleon-like pieces designed to offer the wearer various styling options. For example, the flowing sharkskin topcoats were crafted as a single garment featuring two lapels. He also mentioned a personal aspiration to see his designs on the red carpet, subtly invoking the aesthetic of flapper girls with elements such as jewel-like crystal fringes cascading from luxurious coats and shift dresses imbued with georgette fringes that swayed gracefully with movement. His vision extended to three-piece tuxedos, featuring vests layered under lapel-less blazers, reinforcing a modern take on formal wear.
Among various pieces, a mock neck dress adorned with tiny chiffon feathers garnered particular attention, noted as a stunning option for actress Demi Moore at the upcoming Oscars.
